Leading with Data, Research, and Heart
Dear Sion Families,
It is hard to believe that the end of the school year arrived and that our summer camps will start next Monday. As we reflect on the past 10 months, I would like to sincerely extend thanks to you on behalf of the entire faculty and staff for your continued support, invaluable feedback, and partnership this past school year to ensure your child's success. It is truly an honor to have your children as part of the Sion community. I have enjoyed meeting so many of you and look forward to continue partnering with you this upcoming school year as your children become "knowledge seekers, their brother's keepers, and difference makers".
I would also like to use this opportunity to share that our office summer hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Our EDP Desk hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am - 6:00 pm. Also, we will be sending our summer information again via e-packet in an email between the second and third week of June.
Please know that we are committed to continuous school improvement and will continue working very hard to provide your students with the best possible whole child education in the 18-19 school year in a safe, warm, loving, and nurturing environment. Thank you again for partnering with us to ensure your student's success.
Many blessings to you and your families over the summer break and always.
Happy summer, Sion!
Very best wishes,
Paola V. Clark, Ed.D.
Fourth quarter was filled with many fun, engaging, authentic and rigorous teaching and learning moments at Sion. These are a few highlights of our academic accomplishments during this last term:
Modern Languages Film Festival
Eighth grade students participated in the Foreign Film Festival at the University of Central Missouri on April 6. Many congratulations to the French students and Mr. Lord on the following accomplishments:
Les mal-aimés (Liesl Riffe, Paige Dernier, William Waterman, Flanigan Parrott & Nate Sullivan)
Montessori Spring Concert and Graduation
Our Early Childhood teachers worked very hard to prepare our Montessori students for their Spring concert, which took place on April 19 in the Grande Salle. Likewise, all 5-year old students who completed the Montessori program were recognized as they will begin their journey in Kindergarten next school year. Thank you to all families for attending and supporting this lovely event. We are so proud of the amazing growth and learning of our Early Childhood students and look forward to seeing them continue blossoming next school year!
Finance and the Stock Market Game
Big congratulations to all Middle School students in Finance and the Stock Market Game and Mr. Ray for winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the 2018 Year-long Session of the Missouri Stock Market Game!
Missouri Math League & Math Olympiad
Congratulations to Maya Routh who finished 5th in the state in the Missouri Math League competition. Also many congratulations to Mr. Weems and Maya Routh, Jack Broderick, Jordan Wolf, Nate Sullivan, and Isaac Moser for obtaining the top 5 scores of the grade in the Missouri Math League competition. Kudos to Maya Routh and Nate Sullivan for their great performance in the Math Olympiads (MOEMS) as well!
Visual and Performing Arts
Special kudos to Mrs. Stafford, Mrs. Teasley, the Musical Team, and all students who participated in the Fiddler on the Roof Jr., the Spring Musical, and the Arts Showcase this last quarter. We are blessed to have such extraordinarily talented students!
Battle of the Books
The Battle of the Books took place on Thursday, May 3. Heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Annie Riggs and Mrs. Julie Walker-Browne for their hard work organizing this event, and to all parents and faculty members who supported this day as well. It was a wonderful year for all teams! Congratulations to the sixth grade winning team: Lily Dillon, Margot Keitges, Ava Levin, and Sophie Saxton.
Start preparing for next year's competition this summer - reading lists will be available in the summer epacket the second week of June - and share your magical reading moments with the hashtag #sionreads.
Sion Summer Spectacular 2018
We look forward to seeing your children on campus this summer! Whether students take center stage with Camellot Academy, get into superhero shape, use their super powers to engineer solutions, test tactics and scout the city, or participate in any of our weekly camps, led by Sion faculty and industry partners, Sion Summer Spectacular will make their inner superhero shine! To register, please visit CampBrain. Classes start on June 4 and end on July 27. For additional information, please see our catalog or contact Mr Kaspzyk and/or Ms. Burns, Summer Coordinators.
Dear Class of 2018,
Many congratulations on all your amazing accomplishments throughout your time at Sion! Graduation night was a milestone in your educational journeys, and while it marked the end of a learning journey on this campus that began for some as far back as the 2007-2008 academic year, for others, the Sion experience was shorter. Please know that no matter how long you have been at Sion, it will always and forever be your home.
Thank you for making my job as Principal a very special and memorable one. Your class had led our campus with much love, compassion, joy, authenticity, commitment to scholarship and service, extraordinary talent, politeness, and has shown unwavering friendship and camaraderie. The graduation ceremony is referred to as a "commencement ceremony" as it defines the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of graduates. I write these lines of utmost encouragement and support as you turn the last page of this chapter and begin a new chapter in your lifelong learning stories. Remember that you are all shining stars and that you can accomplish all your hopes, dreams, and anything that you set your mind to with hard work, dedication, and determination. High school will bring many new opportunities and challenges for self-discovery, growth, and successes. Don't be afraid to fail, to ask for help, to ask questions, to be safe risk-takers, and to believe in yourselves, because we all (your parents, family, Sion faculty and staff, and friends) believe in you. And, always be kind and compassionate as you remain rooted in Sion.
Please know that we you will be dearly missed and that we wish you many blessings and the absolute best on all your future endeavors. Each one of you is absolutely amazing just the way you are! Vive Sion!
Graduation took place on Wednesday, May 16. It begun with a celebratory mass service in the Chapel and Commencement followed at 7:00 pm in the gym. The last day of classes for 8th grade students was on Thursday, May 10, which ended in the traditional "victory lap" as they were celebrated by the entire Sion community.
